Winners Of Sturgis Metzeler Custom Bike Contest

Dozens of radical customs took the stage, showing off new trends and wild designs from coast to coast. The Best of Show prize winner was Todd Silicato of Todds Cycle, Huntington Beach, California. Todd’s win has earned him: inclusion in the Metzeler Master Builder poster series and 2009 Metzeler Ad Campaign, a three-day apprenticeship with Eddie Trotta (I don’t think he needs it), a feature Article in American Iron Magazine, a trip to Faakersee European Bike Week and tour of the Metzeler Factory, a seat at the Annual Round table in Cincinnati at the V-Twin Expo, four sets of Metzeler Tires, a cool trophy, All Balls Starter, S&S Shop Shirt, and a Boyesen Power X Wing. Not bad for an afternoon in the sun. The Peoples Choice Award was won by Donna Keller and her bike built by Michael Ballew of Ballew’s South Central Customs. Other winners: Custom Class 1st Place: Bill Bess, Built by Michael Ballew, Ballew’s South Central Customs. Chopper Class 1stt Place: Steve Schuller, Industrial Custom Cycle, Ontario, Canada. Bobber Class 1st  Place: Johnny Gil, Johnny’s Customs, McAllen, TX. Consumer Class 1st Place: Martin Ramirez, Arvada, CO

Beautiful bike. Got a chance to look at it closely in Strugis. The Metzeler show was sort of lame this year though… too many bikes shows were scheduled at the same time.

Nice bike that deserves first place. a three-day apprenticeship with Eddie Trotta ??? they have to be kidding, right? 🙂

Nice bike. There were six bike shows at Thunder Road, which bills itself as the Custom Capital of Sturgis. But there was really a lot of custom bike traffic at Champions Park, which is really growing – an ACE of London Cafe has even set up at the park.

The biggest show was the Rats Hole Show which had bikes from all the other shows

I was Metzeler’s photographer for this show. The bikes were nice, real nice, and we did see the same bikes in just about every show. I have posted over 500 pics from this show alone and another couple of thousand of Sturgis in general. ALL FREE at Anyway, take a look, lots of cool stuff to see.

I can’t believe that a Master Builder title would be give on a hardtail frame that I’m sure he didn’t manufacture. Or how about that frontend, or gas tank. I have see this exact frame for sale by one of our vendors, where’s the ingenuity, vison or, cutting edge new design. I think Metzler dropped the ball on this one.
